Who knew stinging nettles hold the secret to spring vitality

The featured herb for March is nettle.

A powerful liver tonic perfect to cleanse and detoxify the system after winter.

Ingredients for nettle tea:

  • 1 tbsp of dried nettle leaves 
  • 2 cups of water
  • Local organic honey, according to taste

For a special spring equinox purifying tea blend & for all the detoxifying and liver loving green goodness you can add to the above;

  • Tsp green tea
  • Tsp damiana (wonderful herb for increasing libido!)
  • Couple of drops of buplerum* tincture – hugely supportive of the liver

**Taking bupleurum along with medications that also slow blood clotting might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.

 

Make it

Boil 2 cups of water in a saucepan.

  • Add nettle leaves to the water, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Now, pour the tea into a cup, straining it with a sieve.
  • Add a bit of honey, according to your taste.

As spring unfolds you will see an abundance of nettles in nature.

If you want to use what nature gifts us vs purchasing a nettle tea when available look out for shrubs around knee height, take some gloves and scissors and carefully harvest the tops of the nettle.

Get home, rinse and leave out on a sunny windowsill to dry. The nettles are then pretty much ready to be brewed as the crisp leaves crumble in your hands.
