A powerful liver tonic perfect to cleanse and detoxify the system in particular through seasonal transitions.

Nettle is a herb that is known for its medicinal properties. It can be easily consumed as a tea to improve several health aspects like heart issues, gut health, immunity development, kidney function enhancement, allergy reduction and is anti-inflammatory.

It is a powerful blood purifier that drives out toxins and is supportive of liver function.

 

Make nettle tea

Boil 2 cups of water in a saucepan.

  • Add nettle leaves to the water, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Now, pour the tea into a cup, straining it with a sieve.
  • Add a bit of honey, according to your taste.

For an extra energising tea blend you can add these to the above;

  • Tsp green tea
  • Tsp damiana (wonderful herb for increasing libido!)
  • Couple of drops of buplerum* tincture – hugely supportive of the liver

**Taking bupleurum along with medications that also slow blood clotting might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.

As spring & late summer unfolds you will see an abundance of nettles in nature. If you want to use what nature gifts us vs purchasing a nettle tea when available look out for shrubs around knee height, take some gloves and scissors and carefully harvest the tops of the nettle.

Get home, rinse and leave out on a sunny windowsill to dry. The nettles are then pretty much ready to be brewed as the crisp leaves crumble in your hands.

And if that all sounds far too much work you can get nettle tea form your local health food store / herbalist or if UK based you can try Star Child, Indigo herbs & Baldwins.

Rosemary tea

When we opt for a warming tea for thing vs cold water as the first drink of the day it ignites our ‘Agni’ or digestive fire which in turn gives us energy going into the day. 

So for the 30 days of this challenge if this is the only elixir switch you do swap out the first drink of the day for a rosemary tea it will work wonders. 

Rosemary is a powerhouse of anti-oxidant, anti-viral, immunity and mood boosting gorgeousness. It boosts memory, reduces anxiety and is said to bring good luck and fortune. Setting you up for an energised day.

Ingredients

1 sprig fresh rosemary

Optional enhancement

1 tsp lavender (for a pre sleep, cleansing wind down tea)

1/2 tsp local organic honey or drizzle of organic maple syrup

A couple of slices of dries astragalus root – (Hugely supportive of the immune system, avoid if feeling under the weather)

Make it

Brew in hot water for 4 mins, strain & enjoy.

Make and drink this tea with intention to clear any energy blocks. 

 

 

Daily water ritual

Water literally gives us life. We can gain a lot of vitality and nourishment from being mindful and intentional when hydrating.

We all know by now that tap water is full of nasties & we want to be mindful of plastic bottles. So filtered water is a good option.

We’ve also heard we need around 2 litres a day, more when super hot or working out.

This is literally one of the number one things people forget to do that is a super energiser. So check in every day that you’re drinking enough water and use this powerful and super simple daily practice to elevate it.

Invest in a good eco-friendly water filter – www.phoxwater.com has a reasonable filter system with a glass jug and zero plastic refills.

In Ayurvedic traditions a copper water vessel is prefered to handle, charge and purify filtered water making sure to use a wooden spoon to swirl around and activate it’s positive properties before drinking.

If not available to you simply get a glass jar and add rose petals (love), bay leaves (natural sedative), lavender (calming), rosemary (clarity), cucumber (cleansing) … to filtered water to infuse with healing properties

Stir with intention – stating what you want the water to hold – ‘love’, ‘clarity’, ‘vitality’. Anything done with intention creates magic in an otherwise mundane moment

Green Goddess Juice

Anything green is cleansing for the liver. And a cleansed liver is a great base for optimising energy. 

This juice is clearing for the skin, eyes and tendons. Good for prevention of headaches and migraines.& make adjustments that feel good for you and the time.

In the colder months you can simply have a celery juice. Celery is a deeply cleansing herb with a multitude of anti-oxidants. Or add the ginger for some warming.

Ingredients

2 celery stalks

1 green apple

Handful of kale leaves

Handful of spinach

Half a cucumber

2 inch fresh ginger

Optional enhancements:

1/2 tsp wheatgrass powder

1/2 tsp spirulina powder

1/2 tsp turmeric powder (your green juice will no longer be green but will be extra anti-inflammatory)

Make it

Pop all rinsed ingredients into a juicer, serve immediately and enjoy.

If you don’t have a juicer you can use a blender – this will mean the pulp won’t be taken out and you’ll have much more fibre and it’ll be more filling but less ‘light’.

Juicing gives a cleaner, energy hit but also a sugar spike as the fibre in the pulp helps counteract that.

Buy organic fruit and veggies where you can. And rinse any dirt off with water mixed with a shot of apple cider vinegar before storing in the fridge and they will be ready to go when you need them.

Drink with presence and intention for how you wish your day to go.

 

 

Schizandra & Goji Lemonade

You’ve been introduced to Schizandra berry as one of our superhero herbs.

Try as an elixir, make in batch and store in the fridge for up to 5 days if you want to streamline prep. 

This can be made cool as a lemonade. Or simply use the schizandra & goji and make up with hot water as a tea. 

Super boost energy naturally

Ingredients

Makes approx 4 servings.

1 tbsp schizandra berries
Handful goji berries
4 cups of fresh water
1 large organic lemon, juiced
2 large organic lemons, quartered
1 tbsp local honey
2 tbsp edible aloe vera gel (optional if you feel you need the extra cooling properties)
Pinch of sea salt
Handful of fresh mint

Make it

Heat water and schizandra berries and goji in a pan until boiling and water starts to turn pink. Take of heat and allow to cool.

In a jug add the lemon juice, and squish in the quartered lemons. Mix in honey, aloe vera gel if using, salt and mint. Add the berry ‘tea’ stir and it’s ready to serve. Add ice on a hot day or enjoy without.

This recipe was inspired by the Academy of Healing Nutrition. 

A juicy little number perfect for long summer – Yang – evenings and with an extra immunity and energy boosting kick from an all time favourite herbal ally – Schizandra.

And including the Mother of all berries, the Goji, used in Chinese medicine to help delay the aging process and to strengthen the kidneys, liver, and eyes. Anti-cancer, antioxidant and immune boosting.

Both these berries are incredibly nourishing and blood building – goji’s particularly supportive during menstruation.

NB: Contraindications for Schizandra – Medications changed by the liver interacts with Schizandra. Avoid if you have Epilepsy, Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) Peptic ulcers.

And here’s the bougie-est recipe in this course but so, so worth it. Tweak as desired. Once you have invested in the super-energising natural ingredients you will have them for months and you will see the increase in energy.

1 tbsp coconut oil
1-2 tbsp hemp seeds / protein powder
1 tsp local organic honey

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp roasted chicory root powder / Noffee
  • 125ml water
  • 1/2 tsp maca root powder 
  • 125ml organic milk / oat milk (check the ingredients are clean!)
  • 1 tbsp organic cacao powder (Naturya)

Make it

Combine the chicory root powder in a small saucepan with the water and bring to boil, simmer for 10 minutes.

Add the milk, maca, cacao powder & maple syrup and warm through. Use hand blender to whisk up and serve.

Make it

The Noffee-tini

The buzzy, high-vibe friend of the classic espresso martini.

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop of Noffee 
  • 1/4 tsp shilajit (less is more here)
  • Handful of filtered ice
  • 2/3 tbsp Three Spirit ‘Social Elixir’
  • 2 tbsp organic coconut milk
  • 1/2 tsp natural organic vanilla essence 

Method

Brew Noffee in a cafetière with hot water and allow to cool. 

Stir in Shilajit

Add the ice, Three Spirit ‘Social Elixir’, coconut milk and vanilla essence to a cocktail shaker and shake what your mama gave ya! 

Add 1 cup of brewed and cooled Noffee to your potent potion and mix again until super frothy.
